The nutritional supplement Protibis, designed by the Nice University Hospital (CHU) and its Solidages laboratory for oral health and nutrition research, is reaching a new milestone: it was already available in pharmacies with or without a medical prescription.
These high-protein biscuits, whose sales increased by 70% in 2017, are highly appreciated by patients suffering from weight loss, who rediscover the pleasure of snacking.
Patented by the Nice University Hospital and Solidages in 2009, clinical studies demonstrate that they help increase the weight of undernourished individuals, stimulate appetite, regulate bowel movements, and limit bedsores (Age and Ageing 2015).
This success is explained by the fact that this innovative product meets a real need for the senior population. After the age of 70, more than 20% of the elderly are undernourished, which worsens their illnesses and increases their risk of dependency.
Protibis biscuits are high in protein (22% protein), highly energetic (30 kcal/biscuit), and also a supplement or alternative to creams and dairy drinks.
Thanks to an innovative formulation, this 100% French product manages to be both rich in cereals, pure butter, free from palm oil, GMOs, colorants, and preservatives.
The biscuits are suitable for the elderly (stimulating appetite), cancer patients (suitable in case of nausea), Alzheimer’s patients (“finger food”), diabetics (low in sugar), as well as dialysis patients during sessions (solid food).
According to a study conducted by the Nîmes University Hospital (European Geriatrics Medicine 2017), the improvement in nutritional status thanks to Protibis biscuits reduces the costs of medical consultations and hospital stays for falls and infections.
