A significant delegation from the Radical / Social Liberal Movement was present at the ALDE-IM France Congress held in Nice last Saturday.
Under the presidency of Yves ROBERT, national coordinator, roundtables mainly covered three themes: Defense and Security, Immigration, and Brexit. ALDE, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, comprises more than 60 political parties from EU member states.
The Radicals have a long tradition of European commitment. The promotion of enhanced European integration has always been a strong marker of our political project. As convinced European federalists, the Radicals wish to convey a double message. A message of mobilization in the run-up to the European elections to be held next year, but also a message of ambition for Europe.
This message of ambition is crucial for us who defend social, liberal, democratic, ecological, and humanist values. If the Radicals, if the European federalists, do not engage with Europe, to envision a different, stronger Europe that meets our citizens’ expectations, with a strong European policy on migration and asylum rights, with a strong European policy on industry and global economic exchanges, with a strong European policy to develop Erasmus and training for our youth, with a strong European sustainable development policy, if we are not able to propose a new European pact, it is clear that populists will prevail.
The European ideal is at the heart of radical values. We believe in a federal Europe as a guarantee of liberty, equality, and solidarity that addresses the major issues of our time with a strong political union: demographic, ecological, economic, security, diplomatic.
