New section on the Nice-Premium website. Every week, we will answer questions about OGC Nice and its season. This week marks the second series of questions.
1) Did OGC Nice reassure itself on the field after winning its first match of the season?
Yes and no. While the Eaglets showed a certain level of discipline and seriousness, there were many imperfections, particularly in their passing. The players seem to lack chemistry, but that’s normal. The new signings showed some interesting things, whether it was Dalbert on the left side or Souquet on the other side, but some were more subdued, like Lusamba and Cyprien. Nevertheless, there has been progress since the beginning of the friendly matches.
2) Are more signings expected by the end of the week?
Apparently, yes. The latest information suggests the imminent arrivals of Dante (Wolfsburg) and Carlos Eduardo (Al-Hilal), who would return a year after leaving the Gym (we all remember his incredible five-goal performance at Guingamp). Other names have been mentioned, like Jรฉrรฉmie Aliadiรจre or Emmanuel Riviรจre, but without any follow-up.
3) Which positions have been targeted for reinforcements?
Based on the first match against Rennes, the attack needs strengthening. The offensive sector lacks dynamism, and Plรฉa along with Donis were quite isolated at the forefront of the Nice attack. The club is looking for one or even two forwards, plus an attacking midfielder capable of playing as a number 10.
4) For his first match with the Gym, Malang Sarr became the hero of the evening by scoring the Eaglets’ only goal. What should we know about him?
Firstly, Malang Sarr is the twenty-third player from the youth academy to debut in Ligue 1 since the 2012-2013 season. At 17 years old, he has been with the Gym since he was five. Born in Nice and raised in the Moulins district, he joined the professional squad at the start of the preparation phase, alongside Vincent Marcel and Patrick Burner. He plays as a central defender, and for the record, he put on a solid performance that earned him a spot in the team of the week as ranked by the newspaper L’รquipe.
