The Region allocates 10 million euros for the emergency plan following the severe weather.

Present in Nice for the visit of the President of the Republic, the President of the Region, Renaud Muselier, took the opportunity to announce the support measures that the Regional Council will vote on Friday during a plenary session.

Alongside him were Christian Estrosi, president of the Metropolis, the President of the Departmental Council Charles-Ange Ginรฉsy, the deputy Eric Ciotti, and the Vice-President of the Region and new senator Philippe Tabarot.


Always responsive, the President of the Regional Council stated: โ€œAccording to the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, we have at least 1 billion euros in damages, 500 million in the valleys of Vรฉsubie and Tinรฉe, and 500 million in the Roya valley alone. The damages are being assessed, but we can hope for a reopening within a few weeks, and not several months as with last year’s floods.โ€

This envelope of 10 million* is distributed as follows:

โ€ข Two million euros – with an additional 800,000 euros from the Metropolis – for businesses in the affected municipalities:

  • 1,600 businesses concerned,
  • Up to 50% of the loss of business will be covered,
  • 200 euros per day per employee for the period from October 2 to December 31 โ€“

A regional selection committee with CCI, Metropolis, Region, CMAR โ€“ all businesses can now contact their chamber to submit an application. The first payments will be in early November.

Three million euros for agricultural businesses.

In the three valleys, more than 80 agricultural businesses affected with destroyed barns and dairies, and whole herds swept away.

โ€ข For losses under 10,000 euros, an automatic aid of 1,000 euros is planned.
โ€ข For losses over 10,000 euros, the Region will pay them 10%.
โ€ข Investment credits will be established to rebuild operations.

5 million euros for the municipalities affected by the disaster:

โ€ข These municipalities can submit two aid applications to municipalities within the (Regional Land Development Fund โ€“ FRAT) specific to the damages caused by storm ALEX.
โ€ข In total, each will be able to obtain 400,000 euros from the Region for the immediate necessary works for the municipality.

Further actions are planned for the future:

โ€ข Propose to the State to include a reconstruction section in the State-Region Plan Contract 2021-2027 to start repairing road infrastructures as soon as possible in the disaster-stricken areas.
โ€ข Propose a Proximity Contract to the Department of Alpes-Maritimes and the Metropolis Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur to finance the reconstruction of road infrastructures under their competence.
โ€ข Approach the President of the European Commission so that our region benefits, following this disaster, from the European Unionโ€™s Natural Disaster Emergency Fund.
โ€ข Establish River Contracts to restore the natural environments of these watercourses and, in the long term, prevent such tragedies from recurring.
