On the proposal of Michel Vauzelle and combining the votes of the socialist party, the communist party, the greens, and the national front, the plenary assembly of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, gathered on Friday, June 24, in Marseille, has just voted against the creation of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis.
Reaction of the Presidents of the 4 intermunicipalities of the future Metropolis and the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes
While this vote is only advisory and cannot overturn the establishment of this Metropolis, it demonstrates Mr. Vauzelle’s profound contempt for the populations of our territory and their elected representatives.
The President of the Region justified his negative vote by his opposition to the local government reform law, ignoring the choice of local elected officials who, within the 4 intermunicipalities, the 46 municipalities, and the General Council, have overwhelmingly expressed their desire to create this large metropolis for the benefit of their population.
This sectarian and partisan approach disregards the general interest, it is a true insult to local democracy and the free choice of our communities.
While the President of the Region is supposed to treat all local governments equally, Mr. Vauzelle has just chosen to ostracize the inhabitants of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis from the Region.
As such, he has completely discredited himself and lost all legitimacy as President of the Region over this wonderful territory between the Mediterranean shores and the Mercantour peaks, and across the entire Alpes-Maritimes department.
