Le Relais and ABI 6 raise awareness among citizens about textile collection and social integration with the Textile Solidarity Operation in Nice Cรดte dโAzur.
Le Relais and the Individual Benefits Association for Social Integration of the Alpes-Maritimes (ABI 6), key players in the Social and Solidarity Economy, are launching the “Textile Solidarity Operation in Nice Cรดte dโAzur” on Saturday, October 13, 2012.
Supported by the City of Nice, the operation aims to educate the public on the value of textiles and the integration of people in difficulty. An engaged event not to be missed!
An operation to raise awareness among citizens about the second life of textiles
Each year, 700,000 tons of clothing, shoes, and household linens are thrown away in France, averaging 11 kg per inhabitant. Hardly more than 20% of this resource is collected (about 145,000 tons), and the rest ends up in our bins. The first of its kind in the PACA region, the Textile Solidarity Operation organized on the upcoming October 13 in Nice will be an opportunity to educate residents about donations, with four key events organized by 350 employees and volunteers of Le Relais and ABI 6, representing nearly 20% of the workforce.
A door-to-door collection
Starting from 8 am, 180 volunteers and 60 trucks will roam Nice and its region to collect textiles, household linens, shoes, and leather goods from individuals who have been informed in advance of the operation through the distribution of approximately 150,000 leaflets. The collected items will then be sorted and valued, thus allowing the creation of jobs in integration.
A large clearance sale
From 10 am to 5:30 pm, a large clearance sale will be held on the forecourt of the Palais Nikaia in Nice, offering a wide choice of clothing, shoes, leather goods, and accessories, as well as household linens at low prices.
A fashion show
At 11 am, Le Relais will present an ethical and solidarity fashion show, based on the reuse of items collected throughout the year by Le Relais. 30 volunteers will act as models for a day and showcase the clothing, shoes, and accessories selected for the occasion.
An opportunity for voluntary donations
Throughout the day, every citizen is invited to bring their donations of clothing, shoes, and household linens to the parking lot of the Palais Nikaia. As with the door-to-door operation, the collected items will then be sorted and valued to allow the creation of jobs in integration.
An event operation to promote a responsible and job-creating textile sector, a product of the Social and Solidarity Economy.
