This afternoon, a plaque will be unveiled in honor of the major benefactors and donors who contributed to the renovation of the Greek Orthodox Church building by Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice; the representatives of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation; His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel, Metropolitan of France, President of the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops of France; Father Michel Seliniotakis, Rector, Archpriest of the Ecumenical Throne & Apostolos Verevis, President of the Board of Directors of the Greek Orthodox Parish-Community of Nice – Côte d’Azur – Monaco.
The Greek Orthodox Church “Saint-Spyridon” benefited from a significant grant from the City of Nice, allowing for the execution of consolidation and stabilization work on the foundations, the renovation of the facades, and the construction of the bell tower.
A place of prayer, culture, philanthropy, and unity for the entire community, the “Saint Spyridon” Church is the center of Orthodox Faith as well as all traditions of Byzantine-Greek culture in Nice. According to legend, Saint Spyridon was a humble shepherd born in the year 270 and died on December 12, 348. His holy body was the source of several miracles and healings for his homeland, the island of Cyprus.
