The SNCF Rรฉseau team was at Nice Riquier station on Wednesday evening to discuss with users the planned renovations aimed at revitalizing this heavily trafficked but somewhat aging location.
Four Major Objectives
Accessibility for all travelers, especially for people with reduced mobility. There are currently no elevators or escalators available at the station. This is therefore a necessity.
Facilitated movement from the neighborhood to the station, with the creation of a new access from Rue du Docteur Ciais.
More comfort and safety with the development of station areas, particularly the platforms, the underground passage, the accesses, and the lighting. An enlargement of the platforms is planned, as currently only one train can stop at the station; the project could allow two trains to do so, to smooth traffic flow.
Facilitated boarding and alighting from trains. The platforms date back to the first construction maneuvers of the railways, and the train entrances are currently too high compared to the platforms. A platform raise is necessary to facilitate user boarding.
The project is estimated at 5 million euros, and the financing plan is not yet finalized. The preliminary studies have been financed by the European Union, the Principality of Monaco, the PACA Region, the Alpes-Maritimes Department, and SNCF Rรฉseau.
Invested Neighborhood Residents
The project primarily focuses on the consultation of users. A public meeting is organized on Thursday, January 26, at the Saint-Jean dโAngely university center, where the SNCF Rรฉseau team will discuss with users to choose the best option from six proposed. The plan is interactive.
The president of the Riquier-Barla-Risso-Rรฉpublique neighborhood committee, Serge Amato, is delighted with this step forward. “We have been fighting for four years to improve this station. It is an essential hub of activity in Nice. It must be accessible to all.”
