As part of its policy of conserving and enhancing the remarkable heritage of the Alpes-Maritimes, the Department conducts restoration operations, particularly in favor of religious heritage. It has thus contributed to funding the interior restoration work of the Sainte Croix chapel.
An initial phase of work allowed the restoration of the chapel’s choir. The second phase of work, which has just begun, will involve the restoration of the nave.
The chapel, classified as a Historic Monument, was built by the Minimes starting in 1663. It now belongs to the Archconfraternity of White Penitents of the Holy Cross, a brotherhood that assists the sick and the underprivileged.
