The Republic of Nissa and the Federal Occitan Republic will pay tribute to the men and women who participated in the Liberation of Nissa from Nazi occupation on August 28, 1944, 74 years ago.
For Cristou Daurore, president of the “nissarte” association: “We believe it is important to keep in our collective memory those who had the courage to take matters into their own hands, without waiting for the allies’ army. 32 of them lost their lives that day, and a little more than 280 were injured. To these victims, we must add the allied bombings of May 26, 1944, the hangings of Torin and Grassi on July 7, and the executions at Ariane on July 22 and August 15.”
The president of the Republic of Nissa, Cristòu Daurore, and the president of the Federal Occitan Republic, Ciril Joanin, invite everyone to observe a minute of silence in their honor this Tuesday, August 28, at 12 noon.
