The Republic of Nice and the Federal Occitan Republic have come together to take another step towards the creation of a currency with a Niçoise identity: the Nissart.
The purpose of the evening meeting was the presentation of the charter for the use of this currency.
A classic assembly in a small gathering, tables and “cadières de bouosc” (understood as wooden chairs), but above all, Niçois people attached to their values.
It was Christophe Duchêne, or rather Cristou Daurore for the occasion, who welcomed his guests. He proudly presented the models of his future currency, the Nissart.
A Currency, Symbols
Made up entirely of bills, this local currency will represent the emblems of Niçoise culture of today, but especially of yesterday. “It’s an opportunity to remind us of unmissable figures of Nice,” Cristou explains. Each bill, a symbol:
- The 1 bill represents the Niçoise eagle
- The 2 bill represents the bat, the famous ratapignata
- The 5 bill represents Joseph-Rosalinde Rancher, a 19th-century Niçoise writer
- The 10 bill represents Garibaldi
- The 20 bill represents Catherine Ségurane
Finally, two other bills, a 50 (Jean-François Fulconis, Niçoise barbet) and a 100 (Menica Rondelly, Nissa la bella) will be created for collectors only.
The Nissart Charter, (Rare) Concrete Progress
The future of the currency is up for debate in the evening’s assembly. Under what identity will the currency be created? The nearby example of Cagnes-sur-Mer and its currency, the Renoir, often serves as a guide.
A model where the value of the currency in question would be stronger than the Euro. At the exchange rate, 20 € corresponds to 22 Renoir, a margin of 10%.
The interest in reinvesting in local businesses thus continues its course. However, nothing is certain in Nice: the value, the definitive number of partners (currently 12), there is still a long way to go. Ideas abound, the desire to do well is evident, but the project is not yet ready to come to fruition.
One certainty, the identity of the operation’s partners will have to be faithful to the charter established for the occasion of the meeting.
Proposed in both French and Niçoise, it aims to prioritize local productions, promote the Niçoise-Occitan language, be eco-responsible, and connect the actors of the Pais de Nissa.
