The cavalry detachment of the Republican Guard responsible for public safety within the departmental natural parks of the coastline was initiated for the first time in 2011. This partnership between the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes and the Republican Guard was renewed this year from July 15 to August 30, 2012.
The forces, consisting of 6 horses, 2 Republican Guards, 9 departmental gendarmes including 5 reservists, resulting in 4 riders per day, conduct daily patrols in the natural parks of Vaugrenier, Valmasque, and Estรฉrel.
Perfectly adapted to natural environments, these men, mounted on their steeds, carry out missions of prevention and repression of environmental offenses, fight against delinquency, as well as public information and preventive surveillance of the forest massifs against fire risks.
This cavalry regiment will support the nature wardens of the departmental natural parks, composed of 21 agents present in the 14 parks currently open to the public.
