Christian Estrosi has therefore been elected Mayor of Nice with 41.33% of the votes, with Patrick Allemand in second position with a commendable score of 33.17% while Jacques Peyrat totaled 25.50%. Out of 214,470 registered voters, 128,929 voted for 125,305 valid votes.
The municipal on the ground
Fingers crossed at Jacques Peyratโs camp: The initial trends sent a chill through the campaign headquarters of the incumbent Mayor who spent the early evening at the election service to attend the vote counting. A hundred people were present at 9 PM, hoping the next districts would be more favorable to Jacques Peyrat.
Celebrations underway at Christian Estrosiโs headquarters: The crowd gathers and festive preparations are being made at and around Christian Estrosi’s headquarters where he is expected to speak in a few minutes.
Patrick Allemand, defeated but not disheartened: In his headquarters on Deloye Street, where about a hundred supporters gathered, Patrick Allemand gave his first reaction, “I intend to take on a constructive opposition role. Even though Christian Estrosi is elected with the worst score of a right-wing candidate since the liberation, I wish him success in his role. Patrick Mottard has been the gravedigger of the left in Nice but I want to build for the future as the cityโs decline waits for no one.”
Marc Concas is re-elected: In the first district of Nice, the outgoing General Council member from the Socialist Party, Marc Concas, is re-elected with 51.5% of the vote against his UMP opponent, Eric Ciotti. “You don’t do politics with a logo and the community work I do in the neighborhoods is rewarded tonight.”
Jacques Peyrat has no regrets: The first reaction of the Senator Mayor of Nice in his headquarters, “I bow to the electoral result but I have no regrets. We did a very good job with an excellent team. Life goes on. I regret the many abstentions. I would reluctantly hand over the keys of the city to a mayor for whom I have no esteem.”
Christian Estrosi resigns from the government: As he announced last week, Christian Estrosi has just resigned from his post as Secretary of State for Overseas Territories to devote himself to his new duties.
