The desire to display unity did not last, and it was indeed separately that Valérie Pécresse and Laurent Wauquiez made their comeback, in Corrèze for one, in Haute-Loire for the other.
They parted as good friends (or almost) at the LR national council in Menton (Alpes-Maritimes) at the end of June, but for the new season, Valérie Pécresse and Laurent Wauquiez are reverting to their good old habits. Every man for himself and hello buddies…
Last Friday, the president of the Île-de-France region kicked things off with the meeting of her association Libres! in Brive (Corrèze).
On Sunday, it was the turn of the President of the Republicans to make his traditional ascent of Mont-Mézenc (Haute-Loire).
However, Wauquiez and Pécresse are still clearly at odds. Even if these gatherings are merely communication operations and hold no significance, they highlight the differences between these two heavyweights and their supporters and affiliates.
On the local front, to not break the good habits, the two big shots took two different paths: Christian Estrosi was present in Brive (are we heading towards a gathering of boldly free or freely bold?) while Eric Ciotti, like a loyal complementary officer, faithfully accompanied Laurent Wauquiez, acting as the new Moses in search of inspiration for the “Tables of the Law” for his party.
The debate of ideas also has its virtues, and it’s good that there is diversity and that everyone can express themselves.
As long as it doesn’t turn into a brawl… and for good reason!
