In optimal weather conditions, the Roc d’Azur experienced a second already intense day. And this is only the beginning!
The François Léotard Nature Base in Fréjus suddenly came to life. After a first day inaugurated by schoolchildren, mountain bikers invaded the area on Thursday for a second day marked by the first major challenges.
Launched in the early afternoon, the 300 participants of the Enduroc tackled five specials on downhill tracks interspersed with uphill connections. In total, 29 km and the guarantee of a maximum dose of adrenaline (results in the evening on www.rocdazur.com). Also a large group of 750 runners on the 44 km Roc Altitude Hike.
An emotional sequence also at the finish line of the Tri Roc, one of the flagship events of the second day of the Roc d’Azur with its 1500 m of swimming, 24 km of mountain biking, and 12 km of running.
An excellent mountain biker successfully transitioned to the cross triathlon format, which he will compete in at the Xterra World Championship in three weeks in Hawaii, Carloni dominated the Tri Roc right from coming out of the water. Leading after a swimming segment contested in a particularly choppy Mediterranean Sea, the Fréjus Triathlon member, 3rd and 4th in the two previous editions of the Tri Roc, never saw his opponents again.
Professional road racer Alexandre Blain, a regular at the Roc where he has taken several podiums in the juniors and under-23 categories at the late ’90s, took second place ahead of Briton Alan Bachmann. Among the women, Lucie Croissant (Triatl’Aix), accustomed to extreme events, also dominated the race from start to finish.
Between the Canyon Roc Marathon, the longest event of the happening and the Roc Ruelles Fréjus, the shortest and most intense, Friday will be the day of extremes.
The evening will also be lively with the Roc Ruelles Fréjus where 85 teams of two mountain bikers will take on the center of Fréjus. For the first time, a Kid Roc Ruelles event, held between the qualifications and the final, will allow the youngest born in 2002 and 2003 to experience the thrill of this always widely followed event.
