The route with 46 bends reopened for the summer.

Latest News

With its narrow and winding path, it is like an umbilical cord between the Roya and the nearby Piedmont. Its reopening is a relief for the residents and professionals of these valleys.

Warning for sensitive travelers: this road is not for you. Perched at an altitude of 1430 meters, the so-called ‘road of 46 bends’ is an adventure in itself.

It winds through the mountain over a length of 7.5 km, with an elevation gain of 600 meters.

But beware, it is not open to everyone.

Access is granted to:

  • The residents of Tende, La Brigue, and Limone Piemonte
  • Cross-border workers employed in these communes
  • Hikers and tourists who have reservations in hotels, shelters, and restaurants in Castรฉrino.

For these vacationers, they will need to be able to present proof if checked and must not cross it in a camper van, caravan, bus, or van.

Residents and professionals will need to request a personalized and numbered pass from their town hall.

At night, the road, deemed too dangerous, will be completely closed.

The departmental council owns this road on the French side. It will have invested 1.3 million euros to restore it.

In the Roya valley, another date is also marked on the calendar: October 2023, the announced date for the reopening of the Tende tunnel.
