The SAB chair by Pascal Lac: a delectably artistic chocolate

Latest News

The chocolate SAB chair? It’s possible, thanks to the creation signed by Sabine Géraudie and Pascal Lac. Both have combined their talents for a single shared passion: Nice. They gathered in one of the Lac shops, located on Rue de la Préfecture, the day before its release. Christian Estrosi joined in the tasting.

It is blue, representative of Nice, and today reproduced on a 15x15cm chocolate base. On sale since this Friday in the four Lac shops, the SAB chair tantalizes the taste buds of the people of Nice. The chocolatier aimed to represent the artwork while bringing a “personal touch.” With his expertise, he opted for a 66% pure and bold Caribbean dark chocolate, adding roasted and caramelized almonds. The whole piece is carefully stored in a sophisticated box.
Other projects are in the pipeline. Beans for the 2018 King’s cake are being prepared, featuring the iconic object but also other creations by Sabine Géraudie.

It was the chair that brought us together

The blue chairs scattered along the Promenade des Anglais became a work of art the day Sabine Géraudie arrived in Nice, 30 years ago. The artist, who didn’t expect such success, explains the entirely serendipitous reason for her art’s inception: “One day, I was asked to create a piece illustrating happiness and the difficulty of achieving it, with a Niçoise touch. I had the idea to interpret it with a figure trying to reach its goal by leaning on a contemporary blue chair in 2D.” Standing 3.40 meters high and set on a pedestal, this symbol of Nice has become one of the most photographed artworks on the French Riviera.

It is in this adopted city that both creators found fulfillment: “My life started here,” confides Ms. Géraudie. “My work is a sort of thank you.” The collaboration first reveals a shared passion for this city where they both succeeded: “It’s the chair that brought us together,” laughs Mr. Lac. It is also a mutual respect for each other’s work. On seeing the statue displayed on the Baie des Anges, Pascal Lac immediately “adored it visually.” Before meeting its creator, he wanted to present a finished project. She loves it, the project can become a reality: “when we are approached by someone of high quality, it’s a small recognition.”
