At the initiative of the delegation for senior citizenship, and based on an original idea by Dimitri Korniloff, an afternoon was organized at the Mediterranean University Center dedicated to the theme “The White Russians,” featuring the screening of the documentary “L’Albatros” by Alexandre Moix.
Synopsis: On the night of February 8, 1920, in Yalta, in southern Russia, a group of Russian filmmakers secretly boards a cargo ship bound for France. These are White Russians fleeing Bolshevik terror. They are film producers, directors, actors, actresses, screenwriters, cameramen, set designers, costume designers…
Upon their arrival, they settle in Montreuil near Paris, in a disused studio owned by the Pathรฉ company. Driven out of their country, these men and women come together and find comfort in the warmth of their Russian souls. To rebuild, they will have to break free from their original identity, find the strength to embrace a new culture, and be adopted by another country: France.
A debate with the public followed, led by Vladimir Fรฉdorovski (writer, former Russian diplomat, Officer of Arts and Letters) and the French writer, filmmaker, and journalist Alexandre Moix.
The event concluded with the awarding of an “honorary palm” by a Russian delegation to filmmaker Alexandre Moix, for his documentary, and to Dimitri Korniloff, for his longstanding commitment to the memory of White Russian emigration through numerous cultural associations in France.
