The propensity of the French to save, born out of the Covid-19 crisis, persisted during the first six months of 2021. Investments in life insurance contracts were particularly significant, according to the Bank of France.

During the first two quarters of 2021, the French continued to fatten their savings.

In the first quarter of 2021, households set aside 5.1 billion euros more than the previous quarter.

On a rolling four-quarter basis through the first quarter, household investment flows remained at the exceptional levels observed over the past year, amounting to 202.9 billion euros in the first quarter of 2021, according to the Bank of France.

The propensity to save also seems to have been maintained in the second quarter of 2021. Although the data is still partial, in the second quarter of 2021, households are estimated to have saved 19.8 billion euros, after saving 17.5 billion euros in the first quarter of 2021.
