Nice and its surrounding region have long been a point of passage and, at times, a destination for people coming from elsewhere. This is not recent, and this movement far precedes what we now call globalization. However, to confirm an environment with an international vocation, language proficiency is essential. And, for this purpose, there is nothing better than starting language teaching and learning as early as possible. Therefore, this initiative by the Academy of Nice should be gladly welcomed, with hopes for the best possible outcome.
Thanks to the Cลur de ville international project, five international sections will open at Vernier College and in sector schools (Thรฉrรจse Romรฉo 1 and 2, Ronchรจse, Auber) for the 2013 academic year. Students in Nice can thus learn literary Arabic, Chinese, Italian, Portuguese, or Russian.
In elementary school, the program starts with learning the chosen foreign language for 3 hours per week, with an additional 1 hour for English. In middle and high school, continued studies include between 6 and 10 hours of specific teaching, and the programs followed adhere to the national education standards. This course aims to make students completely bilingual, offering a guarantee of success in an ambitious professional career irrespective of the chosen field.
International sections are offerings of excellent training opened by the Ministry of National Education, after agreement from partner countries and favorable opinion from local authorities.
With the support of partner communities, the city of Nice, and the General Council of the Alpes Maritimes, the inner-city schools work closely with their designated middle school. This educational dynamism now finds a new educational ambition. From their entry into CE2, all students of the network’s schools will receive a linguistic and cultural initiation (architecture, music, visual arts, literature, history) related to each of the partner countries: Italy, Portugal, Russia, China, Tunisia.
