The families of the victims were closely involved in the selection of this work. It will be installed on the Promenade des Anglais, not far from the Méridien Hotel, at the spot where the truck’s deadly course came to a halt on the night of the tragedy.
The artwork in question will be unveiled during an official ceremony, attended by the artist, the mayor of Nice, and associations in the coming weeks.
The associations had a choice between several works, and all the associations unanimously settled on this particular piece. Despite differing emotions among the families of the victims, the choice of the artwork achieved a genuine consensus, described as “very healthy and immediate” and “in great serenity.”
Jean-Marie Fontacaro is well-known in Nice, where he won the Arman Prize for creation at the international art fair “D‘ART.” His works can be admired in Nice, Cannes, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, as well as in Geneva and Düsseldorf.
