The Senate, dominated by the right-wing opposition, overwhelmingly approved this Wednesday, following the National Assembly the day before, the maintenance of the regional and departmental elections in June, with a one-week delay, while emphasizing the measures that must secure the campaign and the conduct of the vote.
After a statement by Prime Minister Jean Castex, who confirmed the dates of June 20 and 27 announced the day before to lawmakers, the Senate supported the government’s choice with 319 votes in favor and only 8 against, including 4 from the Republicans (LR). Ten LR senators abstained. Now, the Government only has to sign the decree to convene the voters.
Are the pointless controversies over? The candidates can start hitting the pavement. Then it will be time to ask how many voters will actually go to the polls.
