As paradoxical as it may seem, our department stands as one of the key strongholds of the Socialist Party. On this occasion, Patrick Allemand hosted a distinguished guest on Tuesday, July 11 at the PS headquarters. Jack Lang had come to support the efforts of his comrades. Inside story.
Nice Première: What prompted you to invite Jack Lang?
Patrick Allemand: Our Party has seen an increase in membership this year. Notably in Haute-Savoie, in the Alpes-Maritimes, and in Paris. Our department saw an increase of +125%! So, we went from 1300 in 2005 to 3000 new members in 2006. It’s very encouraging. We wanted Jack Lang to meet all the new members. And now, it’s done!
NP: What explains this new enthusiasm for your Party?
PA: There are two reasons for this. Firstly, the PS had implemented technological means that allow people living outside the major cities to better understand our projects and to join online. This is the case, for example, in Antibes. But the fundamental explanation is that there is a strong desire for change among the population in France today.
NP: Do you think the French are ready to welcome a woman as the head of the country?
PA: Our government already includes some charismatic women, such as Martine Aubry or Michelle Alliot-Marie. And when one strives for parity, this question shouldn’t even arise.
NP: What future for the Left in Nice?
PA: We have high hopes for next year. The election of one of the PS candidates to head the government will give a significant boost to our Party. Contrary to popular belief, the presidential elections will allow us to find a path. It will be a “facilitator” to accelerate the movement.
NP: What is your reaction to the new scandals shaking the Nice City Hall?
PA: A radical change is needed if we want to end these corruption issues. It’s the people who will decide.
NP: Are you for or against a Sixth Republic?
PA: We will propose reforms in the fall. Anyway, it’s the Republic that needs to change, not its number.
