A few days after the debate in the Metropolitan Council, socialist elected officials revisit the extension of tram line 1 towards Ariane and La Trinité and call for the studies to be relaunched.
As a reminder, on this topic, Robert Injey (PCF) and Xavier Garcia (PS) have already spoken on behalf of the opposition.
“We specifically requested a resumption of the study because I do not believe in the alternative option advocated, notably by the former deputy of the constituency, Rudy Salles, of setting up a true RER by using the lower part of the SNCF Nice-Breil-sur-Roya-Tende line. I particularly emphasized that this debate seemed surreal at a time when the very existence of this line was threatened and when we needed to defend it because it was highlighted in the Spinetta report as a deficit line to be closed!” explains Patrick Allemand, the president of the group at the Metropolitan Council.
For the record, Christian Estrosi had responded, highlighting the parameters of economic return, which in this case were negative, preventing public financing of the investment.
The convenient excuse? It is very probable because, fundamentally, the decision is primarily political: “however, when we re-examine the urban transport master plan voted in 2009, the extension of line 1 is included” according to Patrick Allemand.
“In any case, it clearly appeared that Christian Estrosi did not want this extension at all,” stigmatizes his opponent, before concluding with a thunderous “Arianencs and Trinitaires, they take you for fools!”
Patrick Allemand also recalls that the Mayor of La Trinité did not voice a word in a debate that strongly concerned his municipality. Why is he surprised? He doesn’t know the subject, as in the same session he voted for and then against the same issue…
But if the Trinité official is not interested, why not propose the terminus at Ariane?
