The socialists have chosen their candidate for the 2012 presidential elections.

The final round of the citizen and socialist primary crowned François Hollande, who, winning decisively in the duel with Martine Aubry, emerged victorious in this challenge. He will be the socialist candidate for the 2012 presidential election. François Hollande’s score is 57%, surpassing the estimates (from 53 to 55%).

Already well ahead after the first round held last Sunday, October 9, the president of the General Council of Corrèze certainly benefited from the support of the other four candidates. This time, the voting indications of the various leaders were well followed by the voters.

But there was another competition on this occasion: filling the ballot boxes with as many voters as possible and doing so with a well-functioning organization.

Both objectives were largely achieved: 2.7/2.8 million people turned up at the polling stations (more than the 2.2 million last Sunday) and everything went smoothly with regularity and fair play.

Considering that the goal of 1 million was deemed ambitious by the socialist leaders themselves, this is a beautiful chapter of democracy. We asked Patrick Allemand, leader of the PS 06 and president of the Support Committee for François Hollande’s candidacy, for his opinion:

“The result confirms my good intuition, François Hollande’s profile is the one that the French people prefer for the battle of the presidential election.”

“No particular surprises to report but enormous satisfaction with the remarkable organizational work. A big thank you to all the volunteers for what they have done during this period.”

“There had to be a winner and he had to win with a clear lead: this result was achieved.”

Now, the work continues with a dual objective: to rally all the free and independent people around the socialist project but also to create by all means a positive dynamic around the candidate.
