This type of radar was scheduled to be installed in six other cities in France, including Nice. It is now a reality since the sound radar was installed this Friday, January 14, on Avenue Félix Faure.

The control zone extends from 30 Avenue Saint-Jean-Baptiste to 4 Avenue Félix Faure and will be operational 24/7.

For the time being, it is an experimental phase, during which a threshold of 90 decibels not to be exceeded will be tested. At the end of this trial period, the maximum noise level above which an infraction can be recorded will be established by an order that modifies the highway code.

Fines may be issued by 2023 when the radars are certified. They will amount to €135 and can be reduced to €90 if paid within 15 days.

These sound radars are used to limit noise pollution, often present in large cities. According to ADEME, the Environment and Energy Management Agency, noise pollution and its health consequences cost France €147 billion each year.

The city of Nice had already installed educational sound radars in the city. These reportedly helped reduce noise pollution peaks by 30% between July and December 2021, according to the city.
