Yesterday was the day dedicated worldwide to the fight against violence against women, a day during which each country, under the aegis of the United Nations, participates. This year, 146 women in France have died as a result of domestic violence, an increase of 15% compared to 2019.
On this occasion, Renaud Muselier, president of the Regional Council, gave an update on the actions supporting his intervention and support policy.
In 2020, associations in the South region observed a 34% increase in reports of domestic violence. More than 10,348 people were thus supported by family planning centers and 18,332 by the Information Centers on Women’s and Family Rights (CIDFFs).
The Region allocated โฌ490,000 of its budget to partnering with the Centers for Information on the Rights of Women and Families (CIDFF), the structures of the Family Planning Movement (MFPF), and all local associations that support women victims by informing them about their rights.
The South Region has also mobilized in favor of an ambitious policy for crime prevention. To achieve this, uniquely in France, it has engaged in a multi-year partnership with the Ministry of Justice aimed at improving access to justice.
Thus, 66 structures were funded in 2020 with an amount of โฌ1,484,000:
- 20,000 victims were able to receive support, including 3,600 women victims of domestic violence,
- 73,000 victim assistance sessions were held in 71 municipalities,
- 58,000 legal consultations or interviews were conducted across the regional territory, accounting for one in a hundred residents.
- finally, the Region funded victim support associations with โฌ611,000 in 2020, more than โฌ150,000 of which was dedicated solely to supporting women victims of rape or sexual assault.
