Located opposite the Thรฉรขtre de Verdure, the Sport Caravan stretches over fifty meters. There are karate mats, a trampoline, volleyball net, gymnastics equipment, handball cage, etc. The space is fully utilized and comprises ten different activities, which are more or less present in every city on the tour. “Sometimes we can’t offer everything. In Nice, for example, we couldn’t set up the shooting range, and the ping pong tables because of the wind, nor the basketball court because we are too close to the road,” explains a coordinator.
Between 20 and 25 educators are present at each event. “We are all volunteers but there is still one condition. Each of us is part of a sports club. We oversee an activity we practice,” explains the second coordinator. This requirement can also be complemented with a certificate in animation or first aid.
Organized during the months of July and August, the Sport Caravan sets up in 13 cities across the region. “It’s important to note that we had to refuse some cities this year,” says the coordinator. Initially, the Sport Caravan only “docked” on weekends. A detail that changed this year due to strong demand from various municipalities. Each organized day sees between 100 and 150 children participating in the activities. Who said that young people prefer to stay in front of their computers?
