The Spring of Poets at the BMVR

MARCH 2 – MAY 8 EXHIBITION – Writing in Fragments
Raphaël MONTICELLI Artist Books, Crossed Works, and Other Odds and Ends

Built from the BMVR’s collection of artist books, this exhibition showcases aspects of Raphaël Monticelli’s writing work and some of his collaborations with artists. It’s an opportunity to discover an approach where, according to Marcel Alocco, “writing and artistic gestures mix, sometimes reversing roles,” and also a chance for the library to pay tribute to this writer-poet who actively contributes to the cultural influence of the city of Nice.

Raphaël Monticelli is a writer, poet, and art critic. FRIDAY MARCH 11 – 17h
Landscapes in the work of Sophie Braganti
By Sophie BRAGANTI

Sophie Braganti was born in Nice and still lives there. She is the author of collections of short stories and poetry as well as books for youth and often collaborates with artists. Regarding the landscape in Sophie Braganti’s work, it is not strictly speaking a thematic element but rather the plural vector of Infinite landscapes. It is explored broadly (natural, urban, environmental, and interior landscapes) as an omnipresent alter ego that accompanies us. During this reading, two videos will be shown: one she made during her trip to Chile aboard the Marion Dufresne and another titled Vert created by Patrick Lanneau on the same mountainous sites as the writing of Un jour, inédit. One of her poems, Ce que le bleu soulève, was selected to feature on the Printemps des Poètes 2011 website.

SATURDAY MARCH 12 – 15h
Reading by Paul Charrieras and actors from the TNN

FRIDAY MARCH 18 – 17h
Flights over Infinite landscapes: poetry and music
By Caroline DUVAL, actress and singer
Serge PESCE, accommodated guitar

While every year the BMVR gives voice to living poets, it also remembers to celebrate their predecessors who have become classics, often considered revolutionary in their time. Classics, but not static nor mummified between the pages of ancient collections, and they too are very much alive and well, speaking with the voice of Caroline Duval, actress and singer, accompanied by Serge Pesce, musician, composer, and improviser. He plays an accommodated guitar, which is a guitar equipped with a custom toolbox to create an exceptional range of sounds, unique, organic, living tones… which he uses for an improvised music that reflects influences of jazz and Italo-Niçoise culture: the imaginogenic music.

Poetry Forum at the Louis Nucéra Library on Saturday, March 19 from 14h

To participate in this forum, all interested persons can submit a poem of their own composition on the theme “Infinite landscapes” into a box at the Louis Nucéra library, from February 14 to February 27, or send it via email or mail. Each poet must include their name, first name, address, and phone number.
These poems will be evaluated by a jury chaired by Raoul Mille.
This operation is aimed at allowing citizens of Nice, authors of poetry, to publicly read their work within the prestigious setting of the book and literature that is the Louis Nucéra Library.

WEDNESDAY MARCH 9 – 16h CONFERENCE AND READING
Persia and its Avant-garde Feminists
By Farida HACHTROUDI, writer

In the land of Islam, Persian women are seen as avant-garde. The fight for gender equality dates back to the 1800s “Learned women” of the Qajar court, like writer Bibi Khanou Astar Abadi, to the “red mystics” like Zarrine Taj Borqani—scholar, poetess, and exceptionally, a Quranic exegete who taught in Najaf in the 1830s. Exceptional women fought against the status of the so-called weaker sex and for social justice in a broad and noble sense. It is in their name that many women have fought for decades in Iran.

Beauty of the Sky and Cosmic Phenomena
By Albert BIJAOUI, renowned astronomer at the Nice Observatory
By Martine PUJOL, actress

Projections of images of celestial objects, linking their particularly spectacular aspect to the physical phenomena involved. Can the aesthetic judgment of a natural object be separated from the scientific knowledge of it? To make the stars admired, the presenter must analyze them by highlighting the different physical phenomena involved. Some lesser-known images from the Hubble Space Telescope gallery will be presented.
Classical poets’ texts illustrating the cosmos and the universe will be alternately read by actress Martine Pujol.

TUESDAY MARCH 15 – 16h
Meetings with Overseas Poets
Césaire, Senghor, Damas: the poetic trimurti of Négritude
By Robert MONSTERLEET, writer, historian
By Isabelle BONDIAU, actress

In the frame of the Year of Overseas Territories launched this year on January 12, the CUM dedicates a special place to overseas poetry. First, let’s recall this cultural revolution, the assertion of Négritude with Léopold Senghor, while not ignoring the often-overlooked linguistic heritage of these distant islands. The metropolis must discover the richness of these poets coming from infinite landscapes. On this occasion, the CUM pays tribute to the remarkable work accomplished for many years by the Cercle Méditerranée Caraïbe, chaired with talent by Marie-Reine De Jaham.
Event organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Overseas Territories.
