The Stade du Ray changes its turf after 60 years serving the Gym.

Latest News

Arriving from Bordeaux, the new turf will be ready for the first home match of the season.
Work began last Tuesday, with large refrigerated trucks unloading 8,250 square meters of turf. The sod should be laid before the end of June. Afterwards, it will take between three weeks and a month for the new green carpet to be operational. This time is allotted for proper root establishment.

By chance or coincidence, the future lawn at Nice is the same as the one used at Camp Nou, the stadium of FC Barcelona. Another coincidence, the Lyon-based company in charge of its installation is none other than the same one used by Real Madrid’s training center. Hopefully, the fate of the Eagles next season will be as glorious as that of their Spanish counterparts.

In 60 years of existence, the green turf of Ray has seen both glory and decline. Recall the four French championship titles (1951, 1952, 1956, 1959), the three French Cups (1952, 1954, 1997), and the 2006 League Cup.

The cost of this facelift is estimated at 335,956 euros. Waiting for the new stadium planned for June 2013, the first cleats will tread the new grass from the second day of Ligue 1 against Rennes.
