The start of the nursery year marked by a focus on quality care for young children.

Since 2008, the number of daycare places has been steadily increasing to meet the growing demand from Nice’s residents. Births have been regularly increasing: over a hundred additional registrations have been recorded compared to 2014.

This year: 3,105 children were accommodated in the 56 establishments of the City and its partners, including nearly 1,600 new young children starting school for the first time!

On the occasion of the start of the school year, the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, reaffirmed his full commitment “to provide continuous quality care in the service of children and families.”

Following the opening in 2014 of 3 establishments (Creation of the nurseries Baby’Age and Les Petits Loups and the extension of the nursery “La Cantarineta”), 2015 sees the opening of 2 establishments in September and October, allowing for around thirty additional children to be accommodated (the extension of the Pasteur hospital nursery “Les Petits Galets” and the creation of the Saint François clinic nursery “Voie Romaine”).

The program will continue in the years 2016-2018 with an increasing pace: 2016 / 100 new places; 2017: 80; 2018: 130 new places.
A total of 1,143 new places were created between 2008 and 2018.

400 children were on the waiting list as of September 1st; this number may still change due to last-minute cancellations.

Today, there are still nearly 120 places available with 86 approved private childminders who offset the lack of places in public establishments.

To this end, families can apply for the Municipal Compensatory Allowance: this allowance provides a real solution to families. It compensates for the difference between the cost of a place in a nursery and the cost of a private childminder or a family home care position, up to a maximum of 200 euros per month.

More than 1,263 families have benefited from this allowance since its creation in 2008.
