Christine Lagarde, Minister of Economy, Industry, and Employment, Brice Hortefeux, Minister of the Interior, Overseas Territories and Local Authorities, and François Baroin, Minister of Budget, Public Accounts, and State Reform, signed on Friday, June 25, 2010, this decree recognizing the state of natural disaster for:
– Flooding and mechanical shock related to the action of waves on February 19, 2010
– Flooding and mechanical shock related to the action of waves on May 4 of the same year
Giant waves had crashed over the Côte d’Azur on May 4, 2010, particularly affecting beach operators, though fortunately causing no casualties.
Christian Estrosi, Minister in charge of Industry, Mayor of Nice, and President of Nice Côte d’Azur, had immediately requested the classification of the city of Nice as a state of natural disaster, organized the restoration of Nice’s beaches, and implemented economic and legal support measures for the beach operators.
The state of natural disaster recognized by decree can activate the policyholders’ guarantee against the effects of natural disasters on properties covered by the insurance contracts referred to in the insurance code.
