Christian Estrosi promised it and he did it! After taking “three weeks of reflection”, the Deputy Mayor found a solution to relocate the contemporary artists of the Station. “I want to make Nice a new city of creation, production, and exhibition,” declared Christian Estrosi last Friday at the Nice slaughterhouses. Between the Convent of the Visitation and the former slaughterhouses of Nice-East, the municipality decided in favor of the latter. Within 4 to 5 months, the artists will be able to settle in and welcome the public under safe conditions. The cost is estimated at 250 million euros.
Cรฉdric Teisseire, president of the association, learned the news with a big smile. For him, “it is a very strong and encouraging support from the municipality.” Expelled from 10 Moliรจre Street, the association no longer had a place to produce or exhibit. Some artists had even left the city. It was therefore urgent that they be rehoused. Cรฉdric Teisseire is sure: “This will make artists want to return to Nice.” While waiting for the renovations, the CHU of Nice has provided them with the Cantaron hospital. An interim solution that will allow them to remain productive while the work is being done.
“everything that is creation will find its place there”
This project is part of the policy of rehabilitating the neighborhoods of Nice. At a time when Nice aspires to become the Mediterranean capital of culture in partnership with neighboring Marseille, it must prioritize forgotten neighborhoods. “It is an area that has lost its soul and identity. Today, this place can bring life to an entire neighborhood,” assured the mayor. With an area of 22,250 mยฒ, the former slaughterhouses will be a “place dedicated to creation.” Painting, music, dance… The Mayor of Nice confirms: “everything that is creation will find its place there.”
“It can bring a lot to this closed neighborhood. It will be able to breathe culture, color,” estimated Fatima Khaldi, deputy mayor in charge of the “Rives du Paillon” territories. Having grown up in Bon Voyage, the young woman is very attached to it and wishes “a lot of future and culture” for this sector of Nice East. On-site, Sophie Duez, from the “Changez d’รจre” list, is enthusiastic, almost overshadowing Muriel Marland-Militello: “it is a true project of sustainable cultural development and not a large cupboard for artists.”
