In Africa, the oral tradition is part of the social life of each individual. In Burkina Faso, where he was born, Hassane Kassi Kouyatรฉ is the designated family member, inheritor of the role of word transmitter, a “griot” of the Mandingue tradition.

A complete artist, creator of festivals and shows of all kinds, in Africa and Europe, this storyteller, director, actor, musician, and dancer skillfully mixes cultures and conveys the most universal messages in an ironic, colorful, and humorous tone.

Tom Diakitรฉ.

Just as Bob Bourdon is a real Indian, Tom Diakitรฉ is a Malian prince. A real one, of royal descent, and a true prince of music as well. A multi-instrumentalist, composer, prodigious player of the donso n’goni, kora, sanza, and percussion, his multifaceted talent has seen him perform with Mory Kantรฉ, Manu Dibango, Tourรฉ Kunda, the Gipsy Kings, Susheela Raman, and many others.

It is within the group “Tama” that he made a name for himself with the general public, thanks to two albums released under Peter Gabriel’s label. His collaboration with Hassane Kassi Kouyatรฉ offers royal moments. You will see that one gladly reads two โ€œTomโ€s from this artist.

Kandรฉ Dioubatรฉ.

A Malian dancer and singer, her voice, carrying the memory of Africa, enhances that of Hassane Kassi Kouyatรฉ and together, they succeed in conveying the whole of humanity. Thanks to this show, all those from 6 to 106 years old, will finally learn what a true “griotte” is.

Hassane Kassi Kouyatรฉ will also perform on Thursday, July 19 at 10:45 PM in Bar-sur-Loup. With “What men say, what women think”, he will evoke male-female relationships (suitable for all audiences from age 10).

The 17th Storytelling Festival will take place from July 15 to 22. During these eight dates, from hidden emotions to liberating laughter, storytelling will offer spectators the most beautiful and festive proof of its universality.

The shows are free and take place outdoors, except in case of rain.

For this new edition, the Storytelling Festival is enhancing its concept by particularly creating afternoon sessions for children. Every day, except on the 15th and 22nd of July, at 5 PM, shows tailored to the imagination of children will be offered in the municipalities hosting the Festival. The evenings will take place in two parts, each lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes. If the first part, at 9 PM, will be accessible to everyone aged 8 and up, the second part, scheduled for 10:45 PM, will be aimed more at teenagers and adults.

On Tuesday, July 17, at 11 AM, the departmental media library (23, bd Paul Montel in Nice) will organize a meeting with the festival’s storytellers, a moment of exchange and sharing for all lovers of storytelling.

On Sunday, July 22 in Sospel with “Crossed tales… Or at the crossroads of storytellers”, the storytellers will give an unprecedented finale. Around a common theme, each artist will unfold the thread of their tradition and fantasy, to interweave it with that of their neighboring performer.

The detailed program is available online on the website cg06.fr.

A free brochure is distributed in libraries, town halls, and tourist offices of the concerned and neighboring municipalities.
