The Studios de la Victorine, on the brink of 100 years, will they have a future, and if so, what will it be?

Latest News

Announced with the flair that marks all his initiatives, Christian Estrosi presented the Victorine Committee in Paris, in the iconic setting of the National Center for Cinema. This committee, coordinated by Eric Garandeau, will be responsible for considering the future of the Studios, which will celebrate their centennial in 2019.

The individuals anticipated to be involved are Raphael Benoliel, John Bernard, Bertrand Bonello, Vรฉronique Cayla, Thierry Frรฉmaux, Costa Gavras, Pierre-William Glenn, Michel Hazanavicius, David Kessler, Iris Knobloch, Alain Kruger, Michรจle Laroque, Claude Lelouch, Alexandre Michelin, Sylvie Pialat, Joann Sfar, Marianne Slot, Marc Tessier.

Their task is both ambitious and challenging: how to revive and restore the glory to those that were historically significant stages in a completely changed context?

The question awaiting an answer is: will the “indelible marks left in memories” have the potential to maintain an artistically fulfilling yet economically viable future?

As a reminder, the city council of Nice decided to take over the management of the Victorine Studios after 18 years of a concession that “failed to showcase the potential of these studios” – a reflection by Christian Estrosi – who calls for a new strategy to be implemented.

The Mayor of Nice took this opportunity to make new announcements:

Firstly, the establishment of a partnership between Nice and the French Cinematheque for the 1919-2019 centennial of Victorine

Secondly, Jean-Jacques Aillagon has been entrusted with organizing a biennale of visual arts around the theme of Cinema.
