“The Mediterranean is not just a given geographical area. It is a living space, a major cultural cradle.
It is diving into the depths of centuries, as Fernand BRAUDEL wrote. This mare nostrum has never ceased to weigh on the course of History.”
With these beautiful and proud words, Renaud Muselier, president of the South-Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Region, set the tone and meaning for this conference, which brought almost 1,000 participants to Marseille, from heads of state and ministers, to politicians, leaders of international and national institutions and associations, academics and researchers, and above all… young people!
They were able to exchange ideas during five workshops focusing particularly on innovation and employability, youth and entrepreneurship, and thinking and building a desirable future together in the Mediterranean.
“It is time for Europe to understand that the Mediterranean is not just the cradle of its history and civilization, but indeed the crucible of its future,” said Antoine Sfeir, recently deceased, who was the intellectual authority under which the “Mediterranean of the Future” conference was launched a year ago.
“And this transmission, he dedicated to the Euro-Mediterranean youth,” reminded Renaud Muselier, who, on this occasion, announced the creation of a Mediterranean Youth Parliament.
It will bring together young people from all countries with which the Region has cooperation agreements and will meet every year on the occasion of Mediterranean of the Future. This Parliament will be a forum for dialogue and exchanges among the youth from all shores of the Mediterranean.
