After “Nice 2013. A Summer for Matisse” and “Nice 2015. Promenade des Anglais,” Jean-Jacques AILLAGON, the general commissioner of the exhibitions with the support of the city of Nice, returns with another major event, Nice 2017, themed around the Schools of Nice.

From June 24th to October 15th, the city of Nice will unveil four major exhibitions in four iconic locations. “Nice at the School of History” at the Massรฉna Museum, “About Nice: 1947-1977” at the MAMAC, “Noรซl Dolla: Spatial Restructurings” at the Ponchettes Gallery, and “The Surface of the East Coast: From Nice to New York” at 109.

The exhibition at MAMAC will serve as a milestone in the reflection on the “School of Nice.” The one at the Massรฉna Museum will explore major moments in the history of Nice. At 109, the exhibition contributes to the reflection on the influence of artists from Nice. Finally, “Noรซl Dolla: Spatial Restructurings” will highlight the work of the renowned artist from Nice belonging to the Supports/Surfaces movement.

The choice of this theme aligns with the 70th anniversary of the symbolic creation of the “School of Nice” and the 40th anniversary of the founding exhibition “About Nice” at the Pompidou Center in 1977.

This exhibition will bring together works from the collections of museums and municipal institutions as well as national and international loans.

This program, rooted in the heart of Nice’s 20th-century experience, opens a wide window on the historical and prehistoric depth of its existence.

Jean-Jacques AILLAGON has been chosen for the third consecutive time to be the general commissioner of these exhibitions.

“Nice is a city with a great history and plays a major role in the history of art in France and the world,” said Jean-Jacques AILLAGON.
