A press conference will be held this afternoon, and therefore we can only present a hypothesis. However, we can bet that it will certainly not be to offer a cup of tea but rather to announce a new partnership for the 2014 municipal elections in Nice: The Jacques Peyrat-Jean-Auguste Icart ticket. One question remains: who will present themselves to voters at the top of the list to aim for a double-digit score?
Both men are from the right, even if of different tones (but when one’s hair turns silver, one tends to smooth over differences…), they have a common reason to unite: a persistent hatred towards Christian Estrosi. Is that reason enough? It will be up to them to decide.
This alliance is certainly unconventional and circumstantial but not without meaning. Is it the right one?
Jean Icart found himself alone in his “Anything but Estrosi” approach since the other early plotters (whose names no one mentions but everyone knows) have not yet spoken out, and it’s uncertain if they ever will. Despite his displayed goodwill, he was therefore at risk of facing his opponent’s heavy artillery with a cavalry lighter than desired.
Jacques Peyrat, having been unable to secure the top spot on the FN list, had to choose between supporting the frontist candidate or, if necessary, forming an alliance with Philippe Vardon’s identitarians. The grotesque episode of the true-false registration of the latter in Marine Le Pen’s party rendered this second option obsolete. The remaining option, although highly dangerous, was to go it alone with his Republican Entente.
One last possibility remained, which was to join forces with another known candidate, and finally, he will partner with Jean Icart, with a potential chance of leading the list (place your bets) and thus having the opportunity to engage in some good debates with his โfriendโ Christian Estrosi.
Isn’t it said that revenge is a dish best served cold?
