With a 7% increase in commercial spaces between 2013 and 2016 and more than 300,000m² of new commercial projects planned, the commercial landscape of the Côte d’Azur is undergoing significant change.
Following a detailed assessment highlighting the increase in commercial m² in our department as well as the evolution of consumption patterns and the complexity of decision-making processes, the Nice Côte d'Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry proposes 5 recommendations for balanced commercial development in the Alpes-Maritimes:
(i) Move from a case-by-case commercial authorization approach to a forward-looking vision of commercial development,
(ii) Adapt the commercial offering to the needs of resident and tourist clientele to ensure consistency between the growth of commercial m² and the consumption potential,
(iii) Evaluate the overall impact of projects on the existing commercial fabric (impact on traffic, balance with projects related to craft and industrial activities),
(iv) Encourage the establishment of innovative and complementary shops in city centers to enhance the attractiveness of town centers,
(v) Prioritize urban renewal commercial projects and intensify the commercial viability of existing commercial sites.
