As the countryโs reopening approaches, the number of Covid-19 patients being treated in critical care units continues its slow decline, as does the number of people infected with the virus who are hospitalized.
Health authorities are reporting 1,151 new patients admitted to hospitals this Thursday, bringing the total number of currently hospitalized individuals to 26,985. A week ago, this number was 29,487.
Among them, 5,231 are in intensive care. This number was 5,804 a week ago. Over the past 24 hours, 273 severe cases have been admitted to critical care. This brings us further below the threshold of 6,000 and the alarming peak of the first wave in April 2020 (around 7,000).
Santรฉ publique France also records 222 Covid-19 related deaths in hospitals over the past 24 hours. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 105,883 people have died from the disease in France.
Since Wednesday, 21,712 new infections have been recorded.
Vaccination
Everyone over the age of 50 will be able to get vaccinated from May 10 instead of May 15, and available doses at the end of the day will be opened the next day to those over 18, announced the head of state.
On the numbers side, “17,130,308 people have received at least one injection (which accounts for 25.6% of the total population and 32.6% of the adult population), and 7,386,030 people have received two injections (which accounts for 11% of the total population and 14.1% of the adult population),” indicates the Directorate General of Health.
