The Tour Celebration, Nice in Yellow!

From Saturday, June 29 to Tuesday, July 2, the city of Nice and the Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur Metropolis are mobilized to host the 4th and 5th stages of the 100th edition of the 2013 Tour de France. On Tuesday, July 2 (Nice-Nice time trial) and Wednesday, July 3 (departure from the Cagnes-sur-Mer/Marseille stage).

The first 3 stages will take place in Corsica, from Saturday, June 29, to Monday, July 1. During these stages, Nice will serve as the “base camp” for the Tour de France. Therefore, the festivities around the Tour de France will start this Saturday.

These four days will not only be about sports; a rich program of cycling-related activities has also been organized.

Tram decorated with the Tour colors, a giant yellow jersey at the entrance of the Town Hall, blue bikes dressed in yellow, “Nice celebrates the Tour” flags on the lamps along the time trial route, pergolas lit up in yellow at night, a giant banner at 400 Promenade des Anglais at the entrance of Nice, a giant canvas with “Nice celebrates the Tour” on the roof of the Nikaรฏa, and finally at the Allianz Riviera, cardboard silhouettes of cyclists placed on the forecourt, as well as, in the parking lot, an emblematic collection piece from the Tour de France caravan loaned by the National Sports Museum which will open in situ in 2014.

Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur Metropolis, and Jean-Marie Leblanc, director of the Tour de France from 1989 to 2006, will inaugurate the “Nice celebrates the Tour” village in the presence of Eric Ciotti, Deputy and President of the Departmental Council of the Alpes-Maritimes.

After 7 days of racing, covering 813 km, and 12 legendary climbs and ascents, the hundred or so cyclists registered in the 1st Tour Nice Mรฉtropole will reach the Centenary Beach on the Promenade des Anglais at 4 PM.

Sunday, June 30 starting at 8 AM amateur time trial with departure from the Promenade des Anglais โ€“ Centenary Monument level

Amateur cyclists will set off from the official ramp of the Tour de France time trial under the same conditions as the professionals. Organized by Aso Challenges, this time trial will bring together more than 120 teams, each composed of 4 to 6 riders.

Tuesday, July 2, 2013, from 12:30 PM: Etape du Cล“ur Mรฉcรฉnat Chirurgie Cardiaque
Departure from Promenade des Anglais โ€“ Centenary Monument level

Courage and solidarity will be the watchwords of Mรฉcรฉnat Chirurgie Cardiaque for the 2013 edition of the Tour de France. On Tuesday, July 2, the heart cycling team, composed of personalities, will mobilize in favor of children with heart conditions. The cyclists will cover the 25 km of the time trial, an effort that will not be in vain as it will help save 10 children with heart malformations.

Throughout the Tour, 160 boys and girls will experience what it’s like to be a champion cyclist, or at least get a taste of it.

At 3:15 PM and until about 5:30 PM, the 4th stage of the Tour de France โ€“ Team time trial

At 5:30 PM, Tour de France awards ceremony and prize-giving, as well as the presentation of a City of Nice check to the benefit of the Mรฉcรฉnat Chirurgie Cardiaque association

At 9 PM: Play “Le mariage forcรฉ” by Moliรจre with Gรฉrard Holtz

After successes in 2011 with the play Les Fourberies de Scapin (5,500 spectators during the 2011 tour) and in 2012 with Le Malade Imaginaire (8,200 spectators) Gรฉrard Holtz and the Compagnie de la Reine will present a great Moliรจre classic: Le Mariage Forcรฉ.

Around 10 PM, the Tour celebrates its 100th anniversary from the Thรฉรขtre de Verdure to the Villa Massรฉna: A giant cake will be brought to Villa Massรฉna from the Thรฉรขtre de Verdure. The Tour will be able to blow out its 100 candles!

At 10:30 PM, there will be the traditional fireworks
