The number of overnight stays significantly increased in all French regions this summer. This overall increase makes up for the declines recorded in 2016.
According to a report published by INSEE this Thursday, 307 million overnight stays in collective tourist accommodations were recorded in 2017, a figure up by 6.1% compared to the summer of 2016.
This contrasts with the 2.9% decline in 2016, linked to the Paris attacks in November 2015 and Nice in July 2016. Foreign visitors saw a stronger increase (6.7%) than French visitors (5.8%).
However, while the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte dโAzur region recorded a rise of +5.7% in 2017, it has still not managed to reach its 2015 level, still suffering from the impact of the attack that struck Nice on July 14, 2016.
