This Friday, July 17, in Saint-Laurent-du-Var, at the chamber of trades and crafts, an important agreement establishing a link with the National Education was renewed for another 5 years. The goal is simple: to give a new image to the trades and to encourage young people to train in these professions.
Signed by the president of the Chamber of Trades and Crafts of the Alpes-Maritimes, Jean-Pierre Galvez, and the Academy Inspector Michel-Jean Floc’h, the renewal of the agreement will facilitate a rapprochement between the trades and the National Education through several actions:
The first action is to encourage young people to choose the trades sector through internships and training. On this subject, President Jean-Pierre Galvez states, “Crafts offer good opportunities. Young people often have a poor image of the trades, and we need to change that. The agreement and the actions it represents serve as an interface between the working world and young people. Moreover, the world of craftsmanship needs young responsible people to take over. Crafts should be a solution, not a consequence.”
The agreement also promotes the welcoming of students from vocational high schools and internships in craft businesses. Starting from the 9th grade, students will have the opportunity to know these businesses and take an interest in these professions, thanks to observation sequences in a professional environment. Actions for future teachers and current professors will take place to develop exchanges and foster a better understanding of the professional environment and work situations.
For Stephane Saluzzo, pastry chef and administrator of the chamber of trades and crafts, “It’s essential that a link between the National Education and the chamber of trades and crafts exists. It’s a catalyst that allows bringing young people closer to the trades we represent.”
