The tram named “Desire” on the tracks to the Paillon Valley

The Metropolis Nice Côte d’Azur announced last August 20th that line 1 of the Nice tramway would be extended to Drap. The service is expected to start before 2026.

This is the end of a long wait and one can only rejoice at this decision made belatedly after so much uncertainty when it was obviously necessary.

The tramway would pass through Ariane before reaching La Trinité and then Drap, thus opening up a district and a valley that is increasingly urbanized where traffic jams occur daily.

The Communist Party, through the voice of Robert Injey, who served in the municipal council, recalled having already proposed it in 2001, at the time of the project’s first line.

The former socialist mayoral candidate, Patrick Allemand, emphasized his steadfast commitment through petitions for years, despite the refusals from the municipal majority.

The new mayor of La Trinité, Ladislas Polski, who is from a leftist party (MRC) but is part of the metropolitan majority, assumes the role of sentry.

The municipal councilor Jean-Christophe Picard, an ecologist but formerly of the PRG, has pointed out, more subtly and slyly, that finally an electoral campaign promise from 2008 by Christian Estrosi will be fulfilled!

Missing from this little “it’s me” circus is the voice of the master of the place, the one holding the purse strings, the President of the Metropolis Christian Estrosi. Although he cannot claim to have been an early supporter of this project (on the contrary, he did everything to oppose it), nothing will prevent him from claiming the role of the leading actor at the last hour, the hour that counts… the hour of the inauguration!
