In the afternoon, UNI set up a stand in front of the Jean Médecin university residence to distribute essential supplies to students.
Since the beginning of the health crisis, students have been living in a very difficult situation. Psychological, social, and economic distress— the Government and various associations are trying to help so that they do not suffer. Therefore, UNI decided to distribute essential supplies to all students who wish, in front of the Jean Médecin university residence.
Several dozen young people came to collect bags filled with canned goods, rice, cereals, and hygiene items. Meats, fish, and drinks were also available to everyone. For this movement, UNI joined forces with Carrefour Lingostière and the Departmental Council. They managed to gather about 50 kg of food. “We wanted to help the students,” says the president of UNI 06. To carry out this movement, the activists stored all the food on their own, “we then gathered in my garage where there was enough products to ensure a distribution.”
Crous delighted with this action
This movement was approved by Crous. The director “supports this initiative; we welcome all student associations as soon as they work for the benefit of students”. Pizzas were also delivered to satisfy and try to comfort the students. An action that should be repeated in the coming weeks.
A difficult context
This movement is greatly benefiting students. Roxanne, a student in information and communication, appreciates that “it’s young people who are distributing.” For her first year in higher education, she recognizes the harshness of university and the feeling of loneliness currently looming. “I don’t really feel up to it. Seeing things move is really good and you don’t necessarily feel alone.” Living in Vieux-Nice, she traveled to the Jean Médecin residence to access this collection.
