From the first day of the health crisis, researchers, teachers, and all the staff of Université Côte d’Azur and its Foundation have been mobilizing to ensure educational continuity, help students in difficulty, contribute to the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, and offer scientific solutions that prepare our society for tomorrow. Faced with considerable needs, the Université Côte d’Azur Foundation is today launching an exceptional emergency fund to enable it to strengthen the resources being implemented.
Effective Actions Already Taken for Students
As early as March, over €180,000 has already been mobilized by Université Côte d’Azur and its Foundation to support students during the lockdown.
A network of around fifty partner private doctors has been made available to students with coverage of fees for those without social security rights.
A joint emergency food aid by CROUS and UCA for students who have lost jobs or internships, and the distribution of meal baskets by the City of Nice and student associations supported by UCA.
Strengthening the listening and psychological support pathway of the University Psychological Aid Office.
Loan of 200 computers and 4G keys to the most disadvantaged in order to reduce the digital divide and allow students in difficulty to continue their studies and take their exams. A quick and concrete action costing more than €80,000.
Our Researchers at the Forefront of International Research
Professors of medicine, epidemiologists, virologists, psychologists, economists, sociologists… researchers and laboratories are investing in topics related to the current pandemic.
The research work of the Nice teams led by Pascal Barbry at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology and Sylvie Leroy at the Nice University Hospital actively contribute to understanding the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
A research program on the reliability of coronavirus serological tests coordinated by Dr. Sylvie Leroy, a pulmonologist at the Nice University Hospital, identifies patients likely to develop severe forms of the disease to better understand the immune response.
A large international survey on the loss of smell and taste, a phenomenon that can affect COVID-19 patients, is coordinated by Professor Jérôme Golebiowski.
Different Ways to Contribute to This Collective Effort
This appeal for donations from individuals and companies in the azure territory will help our students return to a more promising future, support our researchers in their work, and conceive together a post-COVID era that is more united, more innovative, more just, and resolutely humanistic.
