The vaccine pass … finally passed

Latest News

After two chaotic weeks, Parliament passed the controversial bill establishing the vaccine pass this Sunday, following a final vote by the deputies (215 votes in favor, 58 against, and 7 abstentions). People will then need to prove their vaccination status to access activities such as leisure, restaurants and bars, fairs, or inter-regional public transport.

The government hopes to implement the vaccine pass around January 20, after possible challenges to the Constitutional Council. Socialist parliamentarians plan to refer the matter to the Constitutional Council to ensure the “fundamental freedoms” are respected.

The vaccine pass is expected to come into effect for those over 16 years old in the coming days.

The Senate voted in favor of the vaccine pass, but disagreements persist with the Assembly. The version adopted by the senators removes the possibility for professionals to verify identities. It also eliminates the administrative fine for employers who fail to comply with teleworking rules.
