Last day of the International Ceramics Biennial in Vallauris-Golfe-Juan, which for its 24th edition has recorded a noticeable increase in visitors.

Since July 2nd, this event has once again offered a wide audience, enthusiasts or merely curious, a showcase of the best artistic creations through the medium of ceramics.

In total, no fewer than 6 venues / 7 exhibitions / 65 artists / 150 works / 14 nationalities have elevated this art of fire that is ceramics.

With its status as a pioneer, it contributes to strengthening the position of “city of ceramics” associated with Vallauris, a city proud to have hosted in the past figures like Picasso, Chagall, … and to welcome throughout the summer of 2016: the Italians Bertozzi & Casoni, the Swedish Christin Johansson, the dynamic Dutch scene, from Hella Jongerius to the media-savvy Marcel Wanders, the best of the renowned Korean scene – a country that holds the art of ceramics in high regard -, with a focus on the work of artist Kim Joon, not to mention creators like Philippe Barde and Guillaume Bardet, and of course the presentation of the 2016 competition winners.

It took fifty years for creation in the field of ceramics to finally be recognized as an art form in its own right.

As Céline Graziani, Coordinator of the Biennial, explains, “This passion for ceramics is not new to Vallauris as it has long been linked to the history of the city. The 24th edition confirms this attachment.”
