The next Vélorution in Nice is set and will take place on Saturday, July 7th, starting at 5 PM from Place Garibaldi – Nice.
As always, the bike ride will have a theme:
the search for appropriate parking spaces for bicycles in the city.
But where to park? If not haphazardly on posts or even trees, or in the corners left by motorcycles and scooters…
From a certain point of view, the bicycle parking offer on the local territory might seem attractive. In total, according to the Nice city hall, the network will have 175 stations, 3,100 docking points, and 1,750 bikes, but this concerns the commercial service of self-service bikes, which itself offers twice as many docking points as bicycles.
The Federation of Bicycle Users (F.U.B.) and the Association for the Right to Bicycle (A.D.A.V.) recommend the installation of parking facilities that are:
• close to the entrance or exit under the watch of staff or customers, easily accessible with your “carts”;
• allowing bikes to be locked by the frame and not by the wheel to a fixed point with a U-lock (security against theft).
• properly holding the bike to load shopping bags safely and to avoid wheel damage.
With such a bike parking, the cyclist can carry 20 kg of groceries in two good panniers without risk of theft or damage to the bike (even 30 kg with a bike-trailer).
For example, on the 10 m² of a car parking space, you can easily install 4 racks for bicycle parking and thus allow 8 bicycles to park (and even up to 10).
