In 2019, the City of Nice and the French Cinémathèque jointly celebrate the centenary of the Victorine studios, legendary and internationally renowned, and a major national heritage site, in Paris and Nice. On this occasion, Nice’s artistic, cultural, and festive year is themed around cinema and celebrates the close ties between the Côte d’Azur and the 7th Art.
A Festival dedicated to films shot in Nice and at the Victorine Studios takes place at the Nice Cinémathèque and in all the city’s cinemas from March 29 to April 7.
This festival is an opportunity to see or revisit on the big screen a selection of around sixty rare films shot in Nice and at the Victorine, particularly at the Nice Cinémathèque, with 25 feature films and 4 short films, a family-friendly cine-concert, and exceptional Master Classes.
The opening evening, tonight at 7 PM at the Pathé Gare du Sud cinema, features “La Nuit américaine” THE AMERICAN NIGHT BY FRANÇOIS TRUFFAUT.
La Nuit américaine, a true declaration of love for cinema, tells the splendors and miseries of a film crew at the Victorine studios. It was crowned with the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film in 1974 and is one of François Truffaut’s greatest commercial and artistic successes.
